End of the Cockspur road for Ormskirk

Ormskirk's venture in this year's Cockspur Cup came to an end at Caythorpe this afternoon as the Nottinghamshire Premier League side won by 60 runs.

Batting first, Caythorpe totalled 228-7 from 45 overs in an innings that contained four run outs.

With Mike Taylor (37), Ian Glayzer (25) and John Armstrong (21) being top scorers, Ormskirk were dismissed for 168 after 40.3 overs.

Bootle totalled 306-4 against New Brighton at Wadham Road in their second round tie of the Littlewoods Gaming Knockout Trophy. In a total that included 51 extras (b9, lb11, w30, nb2), David Snellgrove (103) and Ian A Cockbain (65) opened with a partnership of 171 with John Hitchmough later adding 46* and Adam Warren, 23.

New Brighton did well to reach 272-8, a total which, by comparison, only contained 6 extras (b2, lb2, w1, nb1). With Paul Strang (75), Chris Davies (65), Matt Thompson (39), Mark Burns (30) and Kamran Farooq (26*), Warren finished with 3-42.

Their bowlers lost the game for New Brighton, having to bowl the equivalent of five extra overs owing to their lack of direction, eg 10 runs were conceded when two wides bowled by Paul Strang went to the boundary.
