Sunday Cup matches - Bootle book trip to Old Trafford

Whilst the Liverpool Competition XI was on its way out of the Northern Rock League Cricket Conference President's Trophy, Bootle were booking a return trip to Old Trafford on 4th September.

The Wadham Road side, currently holders of the Thwaites LCB Knockout Cup, shot out their Northern League opponents for just 50 in 30.1 overs. Fleetwood struggled against Bootle's attack in which Ronnie Davis was outstanding with figures of 5-9 from 9 overs. Gavin Reynolds (3-13) and Chris Sainsbury (2-14) provided valuable assistance.

Bootle hit the necessary runs in 14 overs to win by 7 wickets (John Hitchmough 32).

The Liverpool Competition exited the Northern Rock League Cricket Conference President's Trophy at Grappenhall. The Cheshire County League side totalled 243-7 (45 overs) with Phil Luxon taking 3-48.

Being only 35-1 after 15 overs and 73-2 at the half way stage, the Liverpool Competition had a stiff uphill task and were ultimately dismissed for 155 after 40.4 overs, Craig Prince (35), Sion Morris (26), Steve Mulligan (20) and former Bootle paceman, Chris Finegan picking up 3-33 from his 10 overs.

The delayed Littlewoods Gaming Knockout Trophy second round tie between Ainsdale and Liverpool finally took place at Liverpool Road. Steve Nealey asked Ainsdale to bat and his bowlers kept them to 144 all out after 34.2 overs, Malcolm Swift (43) and Paul Hughes (22) with Richard Smith taking 3-52.

Smith (60) then featured in an opening stand of 88 with Grant Robinson (45*) as Liverpool eased to 145-4 (30.3) and a home tie against Ormskirk.

At Newton le Willows and Highfield, clubs were fighting out third round ties for the right to face each other in the semi finals. Huyton elected to bat at Newton le Willows and reached 188-9 with Mike Walkden taking 4-17 from 8 overs. The home side's run chase was eased with a third wicket stand of 124 from SS Das (67) and Danny Barlow (45*) as Newton used 36.4 overs in making 191-5.

Highfield now travel to Newton le Willows after beating Worsley by 5 wickets at Billinge Road. Put in to bat, Worsley finished on 156 (44.4 overs) with Andy Watson 74, Danny McKeown 41 and Simon Mollitt maintaining his weekend's form with 6-26.

Highfield slipped to 108-5 in their reply (Chris Liptrot 50, Michael Farrell 25) but Craig Heaton (29*) added 49* with skipper Mark Ramsdale (20*) to give them a semi final place.
