Monday 6th August 2007
It is with great regret that we announce the death on Friday last, after a short illness, of Wilfred Massey, he was 85 years old.
Always willing to help anyone, Wilf, as he was more commonly known, will be remembered for the time he drove his car on to the field at Ormskirk to take Colin Mitchell to hospital after he'd been floored by a Curtly Ambrose bouncer in the match against Chester Boughton Hall in June 1986.
Wilf was a long time travelling supporter of local cricket, not only at Ormskirk but also across the whole area. He would travel further afield into Cheshire and was a keen supporter of Cheshire CCC.
Wilf's funeral will be held at Thornton Crematorium, Lydiate Lane, Thornton on Thursday next, 9th August at 3:00 pm followed by the Civil Service Club, Edge Lane, Thornton.
The L&DCC extends its condolences to Wilf's family and Ormskirk CC.
