New Brighton through to Cheshire final

New Brighton beat Oxton this afternoon in the semi final of the Cheshire Knockout Trophy. Batting first in a match reduced to 35 overs, the Rakers reached 192-8 (Paul Hale 41, John While 38 and Mark Burns 28). Their hosts failed to negotiate the accurate bowling of David While (7-4-6-4) and Ashraf Nawab (3-21) and were dismissed for just 83.

New Brighton then won the toss for the venue of the final on Sunday 2nd September and will face the winners of the Oulton Park v Widnes tie being played on Sunday.

The Rake Lane club is the second in the Competition to reach a county final this season. Bootle play Greenmount in the LCB Knockout Trophy at Aigburth, also on Sunday 2nd September.
