Phillip de Freitas at Hightown
Thursday 10th September 2009

Hightown Cricket Club has announced that former England player Phillip De Freitas will be the guest speaker at the club’s annual dinner on Thursday 8th October 2009.

The fast bowling all rounder was an integral part of England's successful ashes victory in Australia in 1986-87, along with the likes of Ian Botham, David Gower and Allan Lamb.  He went on to make 44 test and 103 one day international appearances for England, including two World Cup finals.

Hightown Cricket Club chairman, Shaun Vosloo, said: "Phillip is a hugely experienced and highly regarded international cricketer and we are delighted to announce he is coming to share some of his vast cricketing knowledge and experience with us.

"2009 has been a successful season for Hightown, both on and off the field, and everyone is looking forward to welcoming Phillip to the club to help us celebrate."

De Freitas finished his first class career in 2005 with almost 11000 runs and more than 1200 wickets. Since his retirement he has attained his ECB qualifications and secured coaching roles at both Oxford UCCE and Nottinghamshire CCC.

Tickets for the dinner are still available at £35.00 each and feature a four course dinner and entertainment from a top local comedian.
