The 10 Greater Manchester Boroughs hold their own award ceremonies to celebrate the hard work and achievement of those involved in sport across their Borough.
The winners of these Awards are then nominated for the Greater Manchester Sports Awards. These were held last night at the Midland Hotel, Manchester with rock climber Leo Houlding speaker for the evening.
With there being seven categories for the awards, Highfield Cricket Club were nominated in two, 'Club of the Year' and 'Volunteer of the Year'. They were successful in the second with Martin Gaskell being named as 'Volunteer of the Year'.
Highfield Chairman, Gary Speakman said: "We are very pleased to have the club nominated for two awards at the Greater Manchester Awards and for Martin to win one is fabulous. It was a great night and good to raise further the profile of Highfield and indeed cricket within Greater Manchester as the only other nominee with a cricket element was Prestwich, a multi sports club."
