Henry Olonga guest speaker at dinner
Wednesday 1st February 2012
Henry Olonga came to the UK as a refugee, following his black arm band protest against the Mugabe regime at the 2003 Cricket World Cup (see 00686).
At the time he was an established test match opening bowler and the first black cricketer and youngest ever player to represent for Zimbabwe at international level.
Since making his home here, he has made a living as singer, poet, writer and celebrated after dinner speaker, and continued playing cricket for the Lashings XI.
As a Christian he also speaks of how his faith is a significant part of his life.
Elm Hall Drive Methodist Church has arranged a three course meal on Thursday 2nd February 2012, and Henry will be the guest speaker.
Tickets (£10.00) are available from Alan Fretwell.
