Norman Whiteside is guest at Smithy Lane

Former Northern Ireland, Manchester United and Everton star Norman Whiteside will be the guest at a Sportsman's Dinner at Northop Hall CC on Friday 16th March 2012.

There will be a compere and the tickets are £20.00 which will include a hotpot supper.

Born in Belfast, Whiteside became Manchester United's youngest player since Duncan Edwards when he made his début against Brighton and Hove Albion two weeks before his 17th birthday in 1982.

He went on to break Pelé's record as the youngest player to appear in a World Cup when he débuted for Northern Ireland aged 17 years and 41 days in 1982.

Whiteside scored the winning goal in the 1985 FA Cup final against Everton, a team he would go on to play for before injury brought a premature retirement from professional football at the young age of 26.

In a career spanning just nine years, he scored 47 goals in 206 appearances for Manchester United, 9 in 29 for Everton, and 9 in 38 for Northern Ireland.
