Obituary - Michael John Leddy
Friday 1st June 2012

The death has been announced of Michael John Leddy. He was taken to hospital on Wednesday night after feeling unwell and passed away early Thursday morning. He was 66 years old.

A long time servant of Formby CC, he officiated at both cricket and hockey. He umpired cricket with Formby's 1st XI in the pre-panel days and since then with the MCUA. As well as being the club's Fixture Secretary, he was also the LDCC's 3rd XI Fixture Secretary. He also played in local quiz leagues.

He was due to be umpiring with Les Knowles at the Birkenhead St Mary's v Parkfield Liscard match on Saturday and at Newton le Willows v Wigan with Dave Halewood on Monday.

A quiet, private and deeply religious person, Mike was an avid supporter of Liverpool FC and he was amongst the 52,000 that attended their European Cup final in 1977 when they beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 3-1 in Rome.

Friends and colleagues wish to extend their condolences to Mike's family and Formby Cricket Club.

Further details will be posted here when available.

To all "back home" in the Comp and particularly at Formby CC.

I was saddened to learn of the death of Mike Leddy. He was a tremendous servant to Formby (in all sports), to the Comp and also to Northern who during my time around the 1st time would deputise as an umpire when required for Lancs/National/Echo duties etc.

He was a simply a really nice guy and I was always happy to spend a few minutes understanding his views and ideas on the game.

My condolences to all and to my friends at Formby CC in particular.

Hope to see some familiar faces later in the summer.

Mark Edwards and Family
