Second Division - Park secure top spot at the Mary's
Saturday 23rd June 2012

No Second Division matches were 'live on air' via TCS.

Former champions Birkenhead Park are back on top of the pile after victory over neighbours Birkenhead St Mary's. Although just separated by a football pitch, the clubs, founded in 1846 and 1878 respectively, had never played in the same league until today. The meeting, however, was a one sided affair with Park winning by 95 runs. Ian Cooper (77) and Haroon Khan (85) set Park on their way to 213-7d with a second wicket stand of 148. After the interval, Park captain Chris Stenhouse proved to be the match winner in taking 6-53 as Mary's were dismissed for 118, their seventh defeat in eight matches. scorecard

Parkfield Liscard are in second place, level on points with Park, after dethroning the morning's leaders Skelmersdale. The Lancashire side struggled against the bowling as they were dismissed for 114, the last five wickets falling to John Warrington at a personal cost of six runs from as many overs. Kamran Hussain (73*) then took over as Parkfield won by six wickets. scorecard

There was a nail biting finish at Sandown Lane where Wavertree edged home by eight runs against Sutton. Wavertree reached 174 thanks to a late order 52 by Paul Deakin as Liam Dodd took 4-32. At 146-5, it looked in the bag for Sutton for whom Phil Frost (42) and Jamie Greener (39) were top scorers but Randall Hoyte (4-44) and Matty Nation (3-56) polished off the tail. scorecard

Old Xaverians are still without a win following their match at Prestatyn where they lost by four wickets. Ian Carroll was the Xavs' star with 68 in a total of 202 from 58.1 overs with 16 year old Danny Davies (he's 17 next Thursday) taking 5-57 and Kieron New 3-37. Prestatyn then paced out their reply which took 53.4 overs for the loss of six wickets with skipper David Harris taking them over the line with an unbeaten 53 despite Mark Doyle taking 3-48. scorecard

As with Wigan in the First Division, St Helens Town suffered a third consecutive washout at Ruskin Drive where their match against Caldy was abandoned without a ball being bowled. There is no excuse for a team to have three consecutive matches at home or away. It is a result of poor fixture making. scorecard
