Second Eleven Performance of the Day - Robert Hughes
Saturday 23rd June 2012
Sutton's 22 year old Robert Hughes has always been rated by his club as a good cricketer but cricket has to take second place whilst he is on a football scholarship in the USA.
Currently back home on holiday, he had a duck for the 1st XI last week against Birkenhead St Mary's and was dropped to the 2nd XI for today's match against Hightown.
Sutton rattled up 256-1d in just 24 overs with Hughes finishing on 200 (two hundred) not out from a mere 77 balls including 19x4s and 15x6s (166 in boundaries). He added an unbroken 200 for the second wicket with Edmund Hurst whose contribution was a more sedate 31 not out from 50 balls with 5x4s.
When a shell shocked Hightown batted, their innings lasted one ball longer than that of Sutton but they were all out for 63 in the process.
SUTTON 256-1d (24) (R Hughes 200*, E Hurst 31* [200*-2nd wkt])
