Corporate and Private Sponsorship opportunities are still available for the Lashings match.
Preparations are now well under way for the visit of the Lashings World XI to Formby Cricket Club on Tuesday 31st July to play a Liverpool Competition Select XI.
Formby Cricket Club officials are currently putting together a strong line up to take on Lashings and have shown they mean business by announcing former New Zealand Test player, Aaron Redmond, as the Select XI captain.
Redmond (32) is currently in his seventh year with Wigan CC, having arrived at the Bull Hey ground in 2006, and he is delighted at the prospect of captaining the Select XI.
"I was pleased to be asked to play," he said, "but it is a real honour to captain the side. I think I will be playing against a few of my mates so I am really looking forward to it."
Tom Mills, one of the Formby CC organisers, said "We are assembling a really competitive team and are very pleased to have Aaron as our captain. His experience will be invaluable against what will be a star studded side."
With 7 Tests, 6 ODIs and 7 T20 appearances for New Zealand to his name, Redmond shares his time equally between Wigan and Otago where he was captain of the Plunket Shield First Class side in 2011-2012.
The right hand batsman and occasional leg break bowler thoroughly enjoys living and playing in both environments.
"I just love playing with these guys at Wigan, it's a great set up," he said: "We play in a good league with competitive cricket and have plenty of fun."
Having married a local girl, Katie, and now with a young family together with a home overlooking the Wigan cricket ground, Aaron Redmond may be around and about in Wigan for a long time to come.
