First Division - Alder in the Friar at Ainsdale
Saturday 30th June 2012

There were three First Division matches, Ainsdale v Alder, Formby v Newton le Willows and Liverpool v Wigan 'live on air' via TCS.

Alder were promoted last season but have yet to register a win and lie at the foot of the table. They had a chance to break their 'duck' after Ainsdale declared on 134-2 after a rain interrupted 37 overs which saw opener Ian Cropper go to 56 not out. Going comfortably at 63-1, Alder managed to press the destruct button and collapsed to 84-6 which went on to 115 all out after Adam Friar had claimed 6-32. scorecard

There was an eventful game at Aigburth where Liverpool managed to salvage a draw from the jaws of possible victory. Wigan's Charles Taylor had been waiting all week to tread on to the hallowed turf only to have his castle rearranged by Chris Whelan from the first ball of the match. That brought in Aaron Redmond to join Adam Samouelle. The pair added 149 in 35.3 overs before Samouelle was caught behind off Iain Handley for 39. This triggered a collapse that saw the visitors lose six wickets for the additon of only nine runs in the space of 6.2 overs, the last of those being Redmond who fell one short of his century (99, 126 balls, 13x4s, 1x6) before Mark Shorrocks (21*) steered them to 187 with Handley finishing with 6-65. In reply, Liverpool reached 92-2 when Hamish Dunlop's dismissal for 51 began a mini collapse that took the score to 108-5. Whelan (38*) could only watch as wickets fell to Shorrocks (4-17) at the other end and it took Phil Robson to block out time and leave Liverpool on 143-9. scorecard

Danny Nolan hit 110 (158 balls, 14x4s, 2x6s) after adding 103 for the first wicket with James Hurlin (40) as Northop Hall piled up 230-6d in 55 overs against lowly Sefton Park for whom Daniel Kelly took 3-65. The visitors began their reply as if they meant business reaching 119-1 but they, like others on a day of collapses, tumbled to 167 all out thanks to Ali Mudassar's 6-57. scorecard

Formby recovered from 98-5 to 225 all out against Newton le Willows following a seventh wicket stand of 110 between Anthony Poole, who completed a maiden century (100, 128 balls, 15x4s), and Andy Halpin (35). There were four wickets for Dominic Chambers and three apiece for Mike Walkden and Sam Stanier. Hampered by rain, Newton had 25 overs to reply and finished with 144-4 after David Fearnley (56) and Mark Wilkie (54) had added 74 for the second wicket. scorecard

Fleetwood Hesketh, second in the table, are on the rampage after beating Orrell Red Triangle at Sea Cop. For the vistors, it was their fifth match without a win and they have slipped to fifth place after being second for four weeks. Orrell soon regretted electing to bat after they'd lost Mark Waddington and David Naylor for ducks with only eight runs on the board. Mark Friend and Jon Cooper attempted a recovery but they slumped to 75-7 and to cap it all, lost their last three wickets on 107 with Adnan Malik returning figures of 6-32. Neil Rimmer (70*) steered Hesketh to 111-4 and twenty five points. scorecard

Wallasey still head the table by 38 points after taking a maximum haul at Rainhill. Michael Currey (77) and Liam Crilly (43) added 105 for the third wicket and with Danny Beaver hitting 45 before being run out, the Wirral side declared on 220-9 after 54.5 overs with Ryan Williams taking 6-52. Rainhill's reply of 141 would have been worse had it not been for Williams hitting an unbeaten 32 at number eleven. There were three wickets each for Chris Bourne, Matty Hughes and Liam Crilly. scorecard
