Obituary - Edward Weston
Wednesday 6th March 2013

Ormskirk Cricket Club is saddened with the news that former umpire at the club, Edward 'Eddy' Weston, died last Thursday, 28th February. He was 71 years old.

Eddie was walking across a car park behind Wheatsheaf Walk in Ormskirk Town Centre at around 11:35am when he was knocked down by a silver Skoda Octavia that was pulling out of a parking space. He was trapped between another vehicle and a wall and suffered significant chest injuries. He was taken to hospital but later passed away.

The Skoda driver stayed at the scene and no arrests have been made. An investigation is now under way into what happened and officers are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Eddie was a founder member of the MCUA and umpired for the first five seasons before returning to umpire with Ormskirk 2nd XI and was often seen at the club watching matches when he was not involved.

He was a volunteer at Martin Mere and an active member of the Ormskirk Street Pastor group, enjoying nothing more than being out on a Friday night helping and engaging with those on a night out and perhaps the ‘worse for wear’.

A memorial service was held by the Street Pastors and Father Boniface Moran on Friday 1st March at the site of the incident, where memories and prayers were shared.

An ecumenical funeral service will take place at St Anne's RC Church, Ormskirk to take into account Eddy’s involvement in Churches Together, an ecumenical group bringing together local churches. An additional memorial service will take place at Emmanuel Methodist Church.

His funeral will be held on Friday 15th March at 12:30pm at St Anne's RC Church, Prescot Road, Ormskirk L39 4TG and followed by cremation.

Family flowers only, any donations greatly received on behalf of North West Air Ambulance who attended the incident and a charity Eddie had supported in the past.

He is survived by his loving wife Pat and two sons, Andrew and David.

The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to all those who helped Eddy at the end and who have since offered sympathy and support.

Friends and colleagues in the L&DCC extend their condolences to Pat, Andrew, David and their extended family.
