The Ainsdale Sports and Social Club is celebrating news that the refurbishment of its changing rooms can finally be completed thanks to a £65,818 grant from the Football Foundation, the country’s largest sports charity.

The Foundation grant represents a significant boost to grass roots sport in Ainsdale as the result of a five year investment plan to provide local residents with state of the art sporting facilities.

The improvements and extension to the building, hoped to be completed in early 2014, include: a new roof, three new self contained changing rooms, an officials' changing room, new showers, and new electrical, plumbing and heating systems. A new clubroom with kitchen facilities will also be added.

The accessible features at the new facility will increase sporting opportunities for all Ainsdale's residents, which will used be by both adults and children alike for participation across a variety of sports. Additionally standing to benefit are the 12 football teams and eight cricket teams supported by the Club.

Funded by the Premier League, The FA, and the Government (via Sport England), the Football Foundation is the country's largest sports charity. Since it was launched in 2000, the Foundation has awarded around 8,000 grants worth more than £420m towards improving grassroots sport, which it has used to attract additional partnership funding of over £520m.

Tony Nicholson, The Ainsdale Sport & Social Club Chairman, said: "We are delighted to have secured this investment from the Football Foundation, which means we can upgrade the quality of our changing rooms so as to provide the residents of Ainsdale with the sporting facilities they deserve.  It is the cornerstone of our five year development strategy to have an outstanding club, so as to enable all people to fulfil their sporting potential."

Paul Thorogood, Chief Executive of the Football Foundation, said: "The Ainsdale Sports and Social Club has been extremely energetic and has worked tirelessly in partnership with the Lancashire County FA to secure this funding, and I am thrilled to see their hard work rewarded with this substantial Football Foundation grant.

"The Foundation is committed to supporting projects like this one in Ainsdale and right across the country with money generously provided by the Premier League, The FA, the Government (via Sport England), who have been our core funders since 2000."
