ECB Premier League - New Brighton and Ormskirk lead the pack

New Brighton and Ormskirk at the only teams with 100% records after two matches.

New Brighton piled up a mammoth 272-9 in 50 overs before declaring against Lytham with David While (68) and Luke Procter (63) adding 105 for the third wicket and Luke Williams taking 3-56. Lytham started their reply with an opening stand of 97 before Tom Hessey was out for 33. When his partner Will Hale went for 87 at 143-3, victory was still in sight but a collapse took them to 193 all out with Martyn Evans taking 5-42 and While, 3-22.  scorecard

Wallasey batted first at Brook Lane and had scored 43 by the time Graham Reid was out at the end of the ninth over. The visitors then collapsed from 62-1 to 93-6 against the bowling of Dave Currency and Gavin Griffiths. Chris Bourne hit 35 as Wallasey eventually reached 153 with Currency finishing with 4-39 and Griffiths 5-48. Ormskirk began their reply by losing John Armstrong for 7 but Andrew Baybutt (57) and Ian Robinson (90*) added 93 to send them on their way to 25 points.  scorecard

Defending champions, Northern, were forced to field for 66 overs, nine of them after the tea interval, as Rainhill reached 262-9d. They were struggling at 58-6 but Paul Ford, who went on to 99 before he was caught and bowled by Paul Park, and Mohammad Aslam (69) added 156 for the seventh wicket. Jack Woosey took 3-36. Northern lost Greg Platten for 9 and John Wildman without scoring but Stephen Lucas ploughed on and had reached 112 from 112 balls with 10x4s and 4x6s when he was given out lbw at 216. Three more wickets fell before Northern finished on 245-9 with Mohammad Aslam bowling unchanged once again to finish with 5-63.  scorecard

Birkenhead Park paid a first visit to Maghull and came away with a win after Rob Houghton (6-39) and Chris Stenhouse (4-52) bowled out the home side for 131. Park struggled in their reply and lost seven wickets as Ryan Swiers took 3-57.  scorecard

Former Hightown paceman Andy Warhurst took 5-48 as Southport and Birkdale restricted Bootle to 145 at Wadham Road. The modest target proved too much for the Sandgrounders who were dismissed for 117 as Stephen Parry took 4-30 and Kaine Balgowan 3-51.  scorecard

Fleetwood Hesketh suffered their second defeat, losing to Leigh at Sea Cop. Hesketh began disastrously with Neil Rimmer and Dean Skelton being out for ducks. Lee Bolton (25) and Ulricht van Duyker set about repairing the damage but Adam Roussak then took 5-41 as Hesketh collapsed to 120 all out with van Duyker being last man out for 46. van Duyker then turned bowler and took 5-49 as Leigh crept home by two wickets.  scorecard
