Second Division side Old Xaverians were celebrating tonight after claiming an ECB Premier League scalp in the first round of the NatWest Club T20 at Victoria Terrace.

With the rules of the competition not allowing Rainhill to play their talisman, Mohammad Aslam, Old Xaverians reached 120-8 in their twenty overs before bowling out their hosts for 104 with eight balls remaining.

Bootle are through to the third round following their defeat of Wavertree at Wadham Road. The visitors were restricted to 97-8 with opener Darren Collin carrying his bat for 56 not out. Bootle were 23-2, but an unbroken partnership of 76 between Michael Gill (43*) and Greg Butterworth (33*) took them home by eight wickets.
