First Division - Orrell join Sandgrounders in next season's Premier League
Saturday 1st September 2018

With Southport and Birkdale not playing owing to the County match at Trafalgar Road, Orrell Red Triangle took advantage and are now just nine points behind the leaders after picking up 24 points against Newton le Willows. Richard Everett (63) and Sam Heeley (62) added 101 for Orrell's third wicket in a total of 209-7d from 47 overs. Jamie Darbyshire took 4-40. Newton's reply began disastrously, losing seven wickets for 45. Marc de Brabander (54) and Nathan Hughes (39) added 73 before they were all out for 149, Siddiq Patel taking 4-43. Orrell Red Triangle will be in the ECB Premier League for the first time next season.  scorecard

With third placed Ainsdale also not playing, Wigan hoped to overtake them after playing Fleetwood Hesketh but that was not to be. The Bull Hey side totalled 173 all out after 52.2 overs with the wickets being shared between Bobby Wincer (5-30) and Gavin Dickenson (5-71). In reply, only two Hesketh batsmen reached double figures, Andy Watts (74) and opener Neil Rimmer (48) but it was tail enders Ryan Thomas and Danny Murphy that saw them through by one wicket.  scorecard

Sefton Park had to be content with a draw at Birkenhead Park after declaring on 232-7 from 47 overs with Neil Durand (55) and Greg Harvey (54) top scoring. Jack Dixon hit 51 for Park but with Daniel Kelly taking 3-24, and Rob Houghton, 3-29, Park ended on 172-8.  scorecard

Burscough are in eleventh place despite beating visitors Prestatyn by 43 runs at School Lane. Jon Stone hit 61 out of Burscough's 191 with Peter Cassidy taking 4-71. Cassidy top scored with 51 as Prestatyn were bowled out for 148, Ryan Hughes taking 5-51 and Brendan Domigan, 4-45.  scorecard

Liverpool desperately needed maximum points against neighbours Wavertree to give them any hope of survival in the First Division. They reached 223-6d after 51.1 overs at Aigburth with Henry Charlton leading the way with 69. Wavertree were never in the hunt and batted out time, finishing with 93-7 after 55 overs.  scorecard
