ECB Premier League - Keedy's eight sends Sandgounders home happy
Saturday 22nd June 2019

Southport and Birkdale keep Colwyn Bay in the relegation zone after denying the Welsh team their first win of the season. With the Bay's Sion Morris being forced to bat at no 11 having broken a finger a fortnight ago, they slumped to 72-8 but Paul Jenkins came to the rescue with 44 before becoming ex Lancashire Gary Keedy's eighth victim (8-25) as the Bay were dismissed for 146 in 48.2 overs. The Sandgrounders lost Isaac Lea for 6 but opener Bradley Yates (73*) and Will Affleck (66) added 121 for the second wicket to send them on the way to an eight wicket victory, their first at Penrhyn Avenue since 2002 scorecard

You have to go back to 31st August 2002 when Leigh last won a league match at Wadham Road. None of the players from that match were on show today. Bootle had former Warwickshire, now Hampshire, all rounder Keith Barker making his début with 28 but it was Danny Davies who top scored with 65 in the home team's total of 220-8d in 55 overs with three wickets apiece for Sam Rotherham and Toby Bulcock. In reply, Barker took three of Leigh's first five wickets to leave them reeling at 44-5. Lewis Pearson and Bulcock each scored 32 but with Barker taking 4-48 and Scott Butterworth, 4-36, Leigh were dismissed for 129.  scorecard

New Brighton are up to second place after a comfortable win at Rake Lane against bottom of the table Lytham. They bowled them out for 114 in 43.4 overs with David While taking 5-33 and Ashraf Nawab, 3-33. The Rakers lost two wickets for 32 but While (31*) and skipper Andy Clarke (53*) took them to maximum points.  scorecard

Northern finished their match at Orrell Red Triangle at 5:12pm, giving the players ample time to prepare for the club's Summer Ball at Moor Park. They bowled out Orrell for 76 with Tom Sephton taking 4-12. Taylor Cornall then hit an unbeaten 47 as Northern eased home by nine wickets in 13.4 overs.  scorecard

Ormskirk's John Armstrong described today's match against Wallasey at Brook Lane as a "great game of cricket". The visitors elected to bat and opened with captain Daniel Beaver who hit 75 but he turned out to be one of only four batsmen to reach double figures in a total of 169 from 54.3 overs as Tom Hartley claimed 6-51. Ormskirk's top order collapsed and they were 46-5 but recovered as Gary Knight (59*) and the late order came to the rescue to send them to 175-8 and victory.  scorecard

Having been top two weeks ago, successive defeats have sent Formby down to fifth place. Ben Aitchison took 5-35 and Ollie Sutton 3-20 as they kept Rainhill to 163 after 47.1 overs but it was their batting that let them down. Formby collapsed from 112-3 to 143 all out in the space of seventeen overs with Qaisar Ashraf taking 4-62 and former Sefton Park stalwart, Peter Kelly, 4-33.  scorecard
