Wallasey make it to Old Trafford final

Wallasey, in their first season in the Competition, have reached the final of the Thwaites LCB Knockout Cup and will play Walkden from the Bolton League at Old Trafford on Sunday 17th August.

Playing Northern League side, Blackpool at the Oval, Wallasey won the toss and reached 219-5 from their 45 overs. Dave Hadden (55) and Rob Turnbull (21) put on 69 for the second wicket and then Paul Strang (48*) and Dave Conlan (37) added a further 72 for the fifth. Phil Luxon scored 25.

Blackpool were soon in trouble, being 23-5 after 12 overs, but Mark Lomas rallied with 46* and Steve Mercer added 15 before the visitors were eventually dismissed for 101 from 34 overs. Chris Bourne was Wallasey's hero with 4-23 with Paul Thistlewaite taking 2-14.

Ormskirk, thrice finalists, came unstuck at Walkden who won the toss, batted, and reached 228-5 with Aussie professional Michael Klinger (85) and Mike Bennison (85) adding 176 for the second wicket after being 2-1. Tony Keys added 22* with David Snellgrove taking 2-30.

Ormskirk struggled against the Walkden attack and fell 86 runs short at 142 all out from 37.2 overs, Kevin Burns (50), Adam Waterhouse (21), John Armstrong (16) with Sam Reidy (son of former Lancashire player, Bernard) taking 4-26 and Dave Smith (2-17).
