Bootle wreck Recs on way to Echo final
Friday 8th August 2003

Bootle reached the final of the Liverpool Echo Knockout Trophy in convincing style at Ruskin Drive this evening.

St Helens Recs elected to bat in this 20 overs a side contest, on a hot, sunny evening. After being 50-2 after 10 overs, they failed to use their full number of overs and collapsed to 85 all out with 2 balls remaining, Steve Martindale (25) top scoring with Barrington Rowland (22), but it was Bootle's bowling that stole the attention with Robin Fisher (3-16), Charlie Lamb (3-19) and Chris Finegan (2-22).

When they batted, the visitors rattled up the required runs in 12.2 overs, ending on 89-1 losing Graham Lloyd for 9. Richard Hignett (47*) and John Hitchmough (25*) took Bootle through to yet another Echo final but will have to wait for next week's semi final between New Brighton and Wallasey to see who they meet and where.
