McCullagh dies after collapsing during match
Friday 15th August 2003
Wallasey's Chairman and wicket keeper, Kevin McCullagh (54), died this evening in hospital following his collapsing in tonight's Liverpool Echo Knockout semi final at Rake Lane, home of neighbour's New Brighton.
Kevin had appealed for an lbw and turned around to watch the ball as it sped towards fine leg. He slumped to the floor as he waited for the return throw and first aid was called.
The ambulance took 20 minutes to arrive (incident at 7:50 pm, arrived at 8:10 pm) and he was rushed to hospital. It was announced later that he had died.
It is requested that all teams, 1st, 2nd and 3rd alike, tomorrow and Sunday, show a sign of respect for Kevin by observing two minutes silence.
All matches tomorrow involving Wallasey Cricket Club have been postponed and the decision about Sunday's Thwaites LCB Knockout Cup final against Walkden at Old Trafford will be made tomorrow.
Sympathy goes to Kevin's wife Viv, daughters Amy and Emma and the rest of his family.
Kevin James McCullagh, born 21st July 1949, died 15th August 2003.
