Formby seal double signing
Friday 26th March 2004

Formby CC is delighted to announce two key signings for the forthcoming season:

Brendan McDonald will join as the overseas player, having just been awarded a scholarship to come to the UK by the Sydney Cricket Association. Brendan, aged 20, plays for North Sydney CC and is a very promising leg-spinner/middle order batsman who recently made his First Grade début.

Dave Hadden transfers from Wallasey CC and is obviously well known within the L&DCC as an opening batsman.

The deal with New South Wales/The Sydney Cricket Association is fantastic news for Formby CC and is a great reward for all those who have strived for it over the winter months. Brendan has enjoyed a productive season down under, good enough to break into a highly competitive team. A penetrative leggy will clearly add good variety to Richard Scanlan’s bowling options and his runs will be a great bonus. Suffice to say, we look forward to working with him soon!

Dave is obviously a highly experienced batsman capable of accumulating big scores and producing match winning performances. Securing his signing represents another significant step forward for Formby CC as we aspire to raise the overall playing standard, in keeping with the many other positive developments that are currently taking place here.

Replacing James Marshall, who has joined Northern, was never going to be an easy task – he is clearly such a talented cricketer and his off the field contributions were significant too.  We fully understand his reasons for moving on and he leaves Formby with our very best wishes.
