Mullaney and Cross take the reins at Leigh
Monday 29th November 2004

Leigh has named England U19 player, Steven Mullaney, as their captain for 2005. At 18 years old, Mullaney will be the club's youngest 1st XI Captain in its 150 year history. Although Steven is relatively young, he has gained a lot of captaincy experience with the Lancashire Youth teams.

The news comes before Mullaney joins the England U19 squad for their tour of Malaysia and India in January-February 2005.

He takes over from Dave Dove who has had to take the step down owing to personal reasons restricting his appearances in the future.

A Leigh spokesman says "Steven has very positive ideas which have impressed the Committee and it has every faith in his ability to lead the team successfully."

Mullaney's vice-captain will be Lancashire 2nd XI wicket keeper/batsman Gareth Cross (20) who is extremely supportive of Steven as the pair takes Leigh into a new era.
