Sunday Cup matches - Bootle complete silverware double

Bootle lifted the season's first pieces of silverware with victories at Ormskirk and Northern.

 

The 1st XI picked up the ECB Premier League Knockout Trophy after a tight finish in the final at Ormskirk, delayed from the start of the season. Bootle stand in captain, David Snellgrove was back on home turf and elected to bat. He top scored with 53 in an innings of 165 from 42.1 overs, Martyn Farrell taking 4-24 and Adam Sanford 3-27.

 

Ormskirk began by losing two quick wickets but skipper John Armstrong (42) and Kevin Burns 926) added 77 to take the score to 88. Steady bowling by Adam Warren (2-22), Ronnie Davis (2-26) and Snellgrove (2-30) kept the home side to 149-9 at the end of their 45 overs.

Over at Moor Park, Bootle's 3rd XI lifted the Embee Trophy after a 26 run triumph over Northern. Dave Conlan and Mark Carter got Bootle off to a fine start with a stand of 75 before the former was run out for 37 (3x4s). Carter (50, 5x4s) and Dave Smith (33, 3x4s, 1x6) then took the score to 132 but the fall of Smith's wicket prompted a collapse that saw five wickets fall for seven runs.

 

Bootle were eventually all out for 172 from 37 of their 40 overs, Kevin Stevenson taking 4-20 and Tony Boyle, 3-28.

 

Northern began their reply with a stand of 49 from Bryn Abraham (26) and John Leary (21) and had reached 77-2 when they too suffered a collapse that took them to 88-6 as Richard Gallagher took quick wickets. Matthew Gee stood firm as wickets fell around him before he was eight out for a fine 56 (6x4s) at 133. Just 13 more runs were added before Northern were dismissed for 146 after 37.2 overs, Gallagher finishing with 4-23.
