ECB Premier League - Ormskirk leave it late to reclaim top spot - hat trick Farrell
Saturday 3rd September 2011

With the threat of rain, Ormskirk asked Newton le Willows to bat and it paid dividends as Nick Caunce ripped through the top order, taking 5-13 as the visitors slumped to 28-6 after 10.3 overs. It was then, however, that the rain took over as the players hurried to the pavilion with Newton hoping it would be the end of the match, at least that way they would secure five points.

News came in that play was abandoned at Bootle, New Brighton and Northern and it wasn't until 5:40pm that play resumed. Newton added 12 runs before Martyn Farrell took the last three wickets in successive balls to finish the innings. It was not plain sailing for Ormskirk as they lost four wickets on their way to a victory that gave them 20 pts and a six point lead over Northern. scorecard

Northern's match against Colwyn Bay at Moor Park lasted four overs before being abandoned with the home side on 9-2. scorecard

Leigh move up to third, eight points behind Northern after beating Rainford by six wickets. Graeme Green (22) and Pravin Tambe (42) opening with a partnership of 58, but the introduction of Mattie McKiernan (4-37) and Michael Baer (6-27) reduced them to 121 all out. Leigh slid to 47-3 but Nottinghamshire's Steve Mullaney saw them home with an unbeaten 42 after adding 71 with Alex Roussak (35). scorecard

Michael Swart was on 40 when Bootle's match against Lytham was brought to a premature end at Wadham Road with the score on 69-1. scorecard
