Thursday 27th December 2012
Former Ainsdale cricketer Jack Wardale, 22, was admitted to intensive care after being stabbed in the stomach outside a takeaway in Nevill Street, Southport at around 1:30am on Christmas Eve.
After an emergency operation, Jack was forced to spend Christmas Day in hospital but is expected to be allowed home in the New Year.
Jack is also a regular with Southport Rugby Club's 2nd XV. Their club captain Gareth Lang said "He's been through some shoulder props as a player and will draw on that strength to recover back to full fitness as he has in the past."
Ainsdale CC former team mate Thomas Wainwright has been charged with wounding with intent and will appear at Liverpool Crown Court on 14th January.
A Merseyside Police spokesman said "Merseyside Police can confirm that 23 year old Thomas Wainwright of Tulketh Street, Southport has been charged with Section 18 Assault."
