In the first round of the Royal London Club Championship, there were wins today for Bootle, Lytham and Ormskirk whilst Highfield, Maghull and Sefton Park conceded their matches. New Brighton are through to the next round owing to their opponents conceding.
At Neston, Ormskirk's batsmen prospered in the sunshine to the tune of 290-1 in their 45 overs. They lost Matty Glayzer for 8 but then MIke Jones (110*, 118 balls, 8x4s and 1x6) and Andy Baybutt (167*, 124 balls, 11x4s and 8x6s - pictured left) added an unbroken partnership of 271 for the second wicket. After the interval, 15 year old Tom Hartley, son of former GB 400 metre hurdler Bill Hartley, stole the stage with his left arm spin as he took 5-34 in his nine overs as Neston were dismissed for 145.
Lytham reached 239-9 against Edgworth and then kept them to 202-9 in reply.
Bootle beat Wallasey at Wadham Road by 84 runs.
