First Division - Morris and Fallah take the Bay to pole position

Colwyn Bay top the First Division on a day of Welsh dominance over Merseyside teams. Bay skipper Sion Morris struck 90 and Ryan Holtby an unbeaten 33 batting at number 10, as the hosts reached 224-9d off 47.4 overs in their clash with St Helens Town. Rob Kenny (4-54) was the pick of the bowlers for Town who were blown away by a stunning spell of bowling from Indian left armer Samed Fallah who picked up 7-40 as the visitors were dismissed for 138 in 54.4 overs. Sefton Park are just two points behind Colwyn Bay despite falling to their first league defeat of the season against Northop Hall. Five wickets from left arm spinner Peter Kelly (5-32) helped the hosts dismiss the Welsh side for 171 with Ed Markey (43) the top scorer. Park’s run chase then fell 12 runs short as they were bowled out for 160 with Will Higginson (3-41) the pick of the bowlers.  scorecard

Liverpool complete the top three following a six wicket triumph over Newton le Willows. Only Tahir Maqsood (56*) offered much resistance as the visitors were reduced to just 118 all out thanks to opening bowlers Fayaz Ughradar (4-21) and Sam Holliday (3-23). An unbeaten 58 from 16 year old wicket keeper Callum Doyle saw Liverpool home despite four wickets for Tahir Maqsood (4-40).  scorecard

Ainsdale’s Malcolm Swift (3-56) returned from suspension to take three wickets, all lbw, against Wigan who, batting on after tea, posted an impressive 253-8d from 55 overs at Liverpool Road. Opener John Richardson hit 99 and Chris Highton 52 for the visitors who then dismissed Ainsdale for 173 with Swift being adjudicated lbw for 5 and Derbyshire’s Matthew Critchley taking 4-51.  scorecard

Opener Neil Rimmer top scored with 48 as Fleetwood Hesketh recovered from 3-2 to reach 140 all out against Rainford who shared the wickets between Ben Hewitt (4-34), Andy Davies (3-32) and Daniel Houghton (3-34). Rainford looked comfortable at 76-2 before Thomas Wareing produced a spell of magical bowling to take 4-9 off 5.5 overs as the visitors crumbled to 115 all out in the 37th over.  scorecard

Promoted Prestatyn enjoyed a profitable afternoon against Maghull after restricting the visitors to 168 all out at Beach Close. Ryan Westwell (6-74) and Danny Davies (4-22) did the damage for the Welshmen who then saw Westwell (64) and Gareth Boughey (50) compile an opening partnership of 106 to help seal a four wicket win.  scorecard
