ECB Premier League - Formby end their twenty-two year wait
Saturday 6th June 2015

Formby were celebrating tonight. Not only had they reached their highest first innings total against Ormskirk since 1995 but they had also recorded their first win against their opponents since 1993.

Formby elected to bat and lost Jude Mahadanaarachchi with only three runs on the board. Dane Williams then joined opener Patrick Pisel and the pair added 142 in 27.1 overs before Williams was out for 95 (91 balls, 14x4s, 3x6s). Jack Vale (33) then added 47 with Pisel before Stephen Parry added a further 60 with the opener before falling for 36. Ian Cockbain immediately rang the bell, leaving Pisel unbeaten on 73 and the total 252-4. In reply, Mike Jones fell for 0 but then John Armstrong and Andy Baybutt added 91 before the Armstrong became the first of Parry's four victims. When Baybutt went for 63 at 139-3, it prompted a steady fall of wickets with the last three going to Alex Lines (3-36) on the same total to leave Ormskirk 181 all out and a drop to second place, five points ahead of Formby whose next match is at home to New Brighton.  scorecard

New Brighton go back to the top of the table after beating Birkenhead Park by six wickets. Chris Davies (48) and Mike Barnes (40) led Park's batting in a total of 195 and there were four wickets each for Martyn Evans and David While. Josh Rylance (63) and Andy Clarke added 85 for the Rakers' third wicket and with Upal Fernando going for 4, it was left to John While (20*) to see them through to victory with Clarke unbeaten on 74.  scorecard

Wallasey sent Bootle into the bottom two after beating them by 34 runs at the Oval. It was their fourth consecutive win against their rivals at the ground. Wallasey were staring defeat in the face at 74-7 but captain Danny Beaver (53) and Peter Black with a career best 64, added 98 to take them to 182 all out after 53.2 overs. With the exception of Craig Prince who made 62, Bootle's batsmen crumbled to 148 all out with Neil Cross taking 5-43.  scorecard

Southport and Birkdale lost two early wickets after being asked to bat by Leigh at Beech Walk. Josh Bohannon (83) and Scott Lees (39) then added 113 in 16.1 overs. With James McCombie hitting an unbeaten 51, the Sandgrounders reached 235 in 52.1 overs with Richard Dempster taking 4-72. Opener Matthew Hibbert hit a career best 76 and with Adam Shallcross hitting an unbeaten 45, Leigh reached their target for the loss of seven wickets.  scorecard

After struggling  in the early weeks of the season, Highfield now have two wins to their credit, the latest against former champions, Lytham at Billinge Road. Things looked interesting at 71-3 but Mike Gaskell took Highfield to a five wicket victory with a career best 80 not out.  scorecard

Northern have now drawn four matches and they have had their opponents nine wickets down in three of them. Today it was the turn of bottom team Rainhill to escape defeat. Northern's openers added 71 for the first wicket but Steve Lucas' wicket for 61 was the second of four that fell for the addition of six runs, to leave them 105-5. James Cole (31) and Ryan Maddock (30) added 44 before the declaration came at 181-7 after fifty-five overs. Mohammad Aslam bowled twenty-seven off them in taking 3-60. Maddock (4-64) and Tom Sephton (4-21) almost took the home side to victory but Simon Brown (24*) and Matthew Dale (1*) batted out 6.5 overs to ensure safety.  scorecard
