Second Division - Burscough fastest to 200 since 2010

Burscough became the first Second Division team to reach the 200 points after ten matches since St Helens Recs in 2010. The leaders put up an excellent batting display against Hightown St Mary’s. Kamran Hussain hit 105 (12x4s, 3x6s) as the visitors declared on 220-6 off 50.3 overs. Jon Stone (3-53) was the pick of the bowlers for Burscough who reached the target for the loss of three wickets thanks to a second wicket partnership of 132 between Ryan Hughes (71) and Navdeep Aujla (64).  scorecard

Alder occupy the second promotion spot following a 92 run victory over bottom side Birkenhead St Mary’s. Alder recovered from 11-2 thanks to a brilliant run a ball century from Kenny Highdale (131, 131 balls, 19x4s, 3x6s), who shared a fifth wicket partnership of 148 with Muhammad Ghafoor (59), as Alder declared on 255-8 after 44 overs. Muhammad Rizwan took 3-38 for Mary’s who were dismissed for 163 with Nazim Mohammed (5-48) and Scott Aitchison (4-48) in the wickets.  scorecard

Wavertree are a point behind Alder after beating Old Xaverians at Sandown Lane. Jafari Toppin (67) top scored as the home side were bowled out for 186 with Chris Doyle (5-64) and Mark Doyle (4-30) the wicket takers. Kamir Sohail (7-22) then got amongst the Xavs' batting as they were dismissed for 130.  scorecard

Strugglers Parkfield Liscard grabbed a vital, last gasp win at Caldy after Grant Hughes (5-26) and Inderdip Singh (3-47) restricted the hosts to 130 all out. David Tassell then took 7-56 off 26.4 overs as the game went to the wire before the last pair of Darren Craven and Nigel Jackson hit the winning runs and secured a one wicket win.  scorecard

Orrell Red Triangle’s Tom Jones (4-34), Philip Taberner (3-27) and Gareth Houghton (3-31) helped dismiss Skelmersdale for 117 at Firswood Park. Bevan Small then top scored with 43 not out as Orrell reached their target for the loss of four wickets.  scorecard

Sutton’s decent form continued after claiming a home draw with Spring View. A second wicket partnership of 117 between Lewis Matthews (52) and Akbar Rehman (66) helped Spring View reach 206 all out with Stephen Birkett (6-38) and Jamie Greener (3-89) the pick of the bowlers. Sutton opener Adam Onion then hit 63 as his side finished on 155-7 off 54 overs.  scorecard
