Saturday 18th June 2016

details will appear here

The season is not at its halfway point but Skelmersdale already look hot favourites to win promotion from Division Two.

On Saturday Sam Callow’s side beat Caldy by 63 runs to make it seven wins on the trot and open up a 46-point lead over second-placed Old Xaverians.

Jordan Maddocks made 59 in his team’s 179-9 declared and then Danny Edwards (5-33) and Jonas Smith (4-25) took care of business after tea as the Wirral side were bowled out for 116 in 40 overs, losing their last nine wickets for 34 runs.

Old Xavs, meanwhile, were losing to St Helens Town by six wickets in a game between two sides who also have hopes they might also be playing in the Competition’s middle tier next year. Ian Jennions took 5-18 and skipper James Davis, 3-35 as the home side collapsed to 28-6 before recovering a tad to 76 all out. Andrew Critchley’s 25 not out completed the win with little fuss.

But the game of the day in the Second Division was at The Rookery where fast-improving Southport Trinity beat Liverpool by just two runs.

The visitors’ pursuit of 135 to win was respectably placed on 95-5 before a four-wicket burst by Shaun O’Neill wrenched the game back in his side’s favour.

Rory Nelson made 57 for Liverpool, for whom Ashwin Nash had taken 5-27 in Trinity’s 134 all out in 38 overs.

At Sandy Lane there was a second win of the season for Hightown St Mary’s, who beat Wavertree by six wickets. Jack Ferguson took 4-15 to counter Josh Birch’s 67 in Wavertree’s 121 all out before Tatenda Taibu’s 43 not out anchored the home XI’s successful pursuit.

Natalie Brown and Joe Smith were the heroes for Sutton in their tense high-scoring draw at Alder.

Brown took 7-85 in the home side’s 227 all out and the highly promising U15 batsman Smith then showed maturity beyond his years to make 90 not out off 166 balls as Sutton replied with 225-8.

Interdip Singh took 6-39 for Parkfield Liscard but could not prevent his side losing by 104 runs to Spring View.
