Liverpool Echo Invitation
Cricket Knockout 2018
Thursday 1st March 2018
One of the worst run leagues in the country has continued its empire building and taken over the organisation of the long running Liverpool Echo Invitation Cricket Knockout.
Being famed for its poor organisation, the Liverpool Competition made numerous errors last year involving depriving Birkenhead Park 3rd XI of their league title and giving it to Goodlass and then messing up again at the end of the season resulting in the Ray Digman Knockout Final being carried over to the 2018 season.
The Liverpool Competition first made an attempt to take over the running of the Liverpool Echo Invitation Cricket Knockout in 2008 when there was talk of the new ECB T20 competition but their suggestion was thrown out by the Liverpool Echo whose competition's format was unique in that it had a two innings a side final which was played over a whole day, earning much needed revenue for the host club.
Now it's just like any other 20 over competition with a 20 over final that doesn't attract the crowds it once did. Its results have appeared on this website as they were rarely published in the newspaper.
The Liverpool Echo Invitation Cricket Knockout has been run like a well oiled machine since it began in 1974 when it took over from the John Sumners knockout as the area's premier 20 over competition. In fact your webmaster has run the competition in recent years under someone else's name.
20 over cricket is not a new thing to the area as until recently, Birkenhead Park and Chester Boughton Hall held competitions which dated back to the 1800s and the Liverpool Business Houses Cricket League which was formed in 1972 is still thriving today.
This season's Liverpool Echo Invitation Cricket Knockout is open for entries.
The 37 clubs that have taken part over the last three years have been entered in the draw and are:
