ICC Cricket World Cup

Old Trafford might not host a match until June 16th, the 22nd of the 48 match series, but the ground will go on to host six, the most of any of the eleven grounds involved.

There will be in a single group of 10 teams, playing each other once with each team playing 9  matches. The top four from the group will qualify for the semi finals. A similar format was previously used in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.

Surely is a mistake as the lesser teams will know earlier if they are to be eliminated than had they played in two groups. This will result in meaningless matches being played earlier, eg who's going to want to watch Afghanistan play Bangladesh in match 31 at the Rose Bowl?

The 10 teams:

Afghanistan
Australia
Bangladesh
England
India
New Zealand
Pakistan
South Africa
Sri Lanka
