First Division - Paul
Jenkins joins the Úlite with 1000 wickets
Saturday 3rd July 2021
Paul Jenkins (pictured left) joined Northop Hall CC at the age of 26 in 1998 and took 154 wickets before moving to Colwyn Bay CC in 2003.
Fast forward to 2021 and the age of 49 with 844 wickets for Colwyn Bay, Paul went into today's match against Old Xaverians in front of his home crowd at Penrhyn Avenue needing just two wickets to join the L&DCC's elite who have taken 1000 wickets.
He had to wait until the sixteenth over before receiving the nod from his captain George Johansen. It didn't take long for Paul to register wicket number 999 as he trapped Matthew North lbw with his second ball. He then had to wait until the 36th over, and his 11th, to get the wicket that made the hard slog over the years worthwhile when he bowled Mark Doyle with his second ball to register wicket number 1000. Paul took two more wickets to finish with 4-18 as his celebrations put James Jones' 5-28 in the shade as the visitors could only muster 84 in 40.4 overs.
Zack Gidlow (41*) and Sion Morris (30) ensured Paul's celebrations continued as Colwyn Bay went on to win by eight wickets. scorecard
