Ray Digman Knockout Trophy - first round
The Ray Digman Knockout Trophy got underway this evening at Cricket Path as a T20 competition much to the annoyance of players and spectators alike.
Most were asking "If you can play 110 over matches on a Saturday, what's to stop 90 over matches being played on a Sunday? We have had enough of twenty over matches."
In the match, Formby powered their way to 181-6 in their 20 overs against a Leigh side that included former Lancashire all rounder Karl Brown.
When Leigh replied, Dewi Jones struck with the third ball of the first over. He went on to take 6-9 in his four overs as Leigh collapsed to 19-7 with Karl Brown being one of Jones' victims for 5.
Alex Mason (22) attempted a late order recovery but by then victory was out of the question and it was a case of Leigh attempting to generate a respectable final score. The last three wickets added 52 as Leigh were all out for 71.
Formby will now meet either Rainford or Southport and Birkdale at Cricket Path in the second round.
(20.0 overs) (R Brown 43, Seward 38*, Oldham 32, Turner 30)
