Sunday 1st May 2022

Royal London Club Championship - preliminary round

It was a bad day for Liverpool Competition teams as only two out of eight made the safe passage into the first round of the Royal London Club Championship.

Form team of the moment, Formby, bowled out Ribblesdale Wanderers for 201 and promptly lost opening batsman Calum Turner for 0, but that was a mere hiccup in proceedings. Ollie Sutton (100*, 91 balls, 12x4s, 3x6s) and Sam Oldham (96, 88 balls, 10x4s, 4x6s) then added an unbroken 200 for the second wicket in 29 overs to clinch the tie by nine wickets.

Leigh had a shorter match against Workington. They bowled out the visitors for 97 and also went on to win by nine wickets with Sam Dorsey (57*) and Matthew Hurst (38*) adding an unbroken 92 for the second wicket.

On the down side, there were defeats for Birkenhead Park, Highfield, New Brighton, Rainhill, Southport and Birkdale and Wigan.
