Liam Grey led Northern to a 138 runs victory against Farnworth with an innings of 146 from 135 balls with 14x4s and 3x6s. He batted for 39.4 of the 40 overs in which Northern totalled 277-6. This was too much for Farnworth who were bowled out for 139 with Jac Kennedy taking 3-13.
Northern will be at home to local rivals, Ormskirk, in the second round after they had an easier match at Prestwich. They dismissed them for 108 with Zahir Shehzad taking 5-21 and Scott Lees 3-21. George Politis (41) and Andy Rankin (36) saw the visitors home by nine wickets.
Formby lost by 17 runs at Furness after chasing a total of 226-8.

Mattie McKiernan was on fire for Leigh at Beech Walk. He wrecked Netherfield's bowling attack with an innings of 177 from 115 balls with 19x4s and 9x6s. He added 148 for the third wicket with Matthew Hurst (61). McKiernan was out at 312-5 with his innings coming out of 301 added in 36.5 overs whilst he was at the crease. Leigh finally totalled 320-5.
A spirited reply took Netherfield to 254 all out with Nathan Graham taking 5-61.
Leigh entertain Westhoughton in the next round.
Walllasey travel to Blackpool after their victory over Longridge. Greg Beaver (84) and Josh Rylance (73) added 146 for the second wicket in a total of 240-4. After the break, Sumit Ruikar took 4-19 in Longridge's final total of 193.
